Financial Aid for Individuals

Xperitas is a nonprofit organization. Providing financial aid to students is one way we can meet our mission and increase access to our programs.

Financial aid eligibility is based on a participant's financial need. Participants whose families have a household income of $55,000 or less are eligible. The minimum award is 10% of the program cost, and the maximum is 60% of the program cost.

Award Amounts

The chart below is a guideline for financial aid eligibility; however, we take into account all of the applicants' circumstances and submitted materials. Students and parents can estimate the amount of financial aid for which they are eligible using the chart below.

Household Income Award amount
$35,000 – $55,000 up to 15% of total program cost
$25,000 – $35,000 up to 20% of total program cost
$15,000 – $25,000 up to 35% of total program cost
$0 – $15,000 up to 60% of total program cost

Award amounts will vary depending on the following conditions:

  • the amount available in the fund
  • the number of applicants who are eligible for financial aid
  • the number of dependents in applicant's household

Application Process

Students must be registered on a 2019 Xperitas program and postmark their complete Financial Aid application no later than October 15, 2018.

World Language Department Grant

This grant is automatically provided to World Language departments in which two ($500), three ($750) or four ($1,000) language programs in the same school travel with six or more students on an Xperitas program in the same or alternate years. With this grant, Xperitas supports and recognizes the educational goals of World Language departments in schools that travel with Xperitas, and provides resources to enhance the language learning experience of all students in the World Language department, whether they travel abroad or not.

World Language departments have used this grant to purchase new classroom technology, to subscribe to international media and to provide opportunities for students to attend language-related performances and events off campus. Xperitas requests that recipients of this grant submit a report of how the money is used by August 31.

New Teacher Reward

In order to provide additional support and maximize the quality of the experience for first time Xperitas travelers, new teachers (for those traveling for the first time) will be offered a guide on their program at no additional charge. This would be limited to select published programs or groups with a minimum of 24 participants*. *Smaller groups may be combined to reach the necessary group size.

If a new group is participating in a program where a guide is already included or groups cannot be combined to reach the minimum size, the teacher will receive a $500 classroom grant after program completion.

$1,000 Referral Reward

In appreciation of teachers or others (cannot be a colleague or friend from the same language program within your school) who refer their colleagues to Xperitas, a $1,000 Referral Reward is provided to a teacher when someone she/he has referred travels for the first time on an Xperitas program with six or more students.
