Program Manager, German Language Programs

Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, operating remotely, Xperitas is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to promoting global citizenship through authentic immersion experiences. Born from the decades of shared experience of Intercultural Student Experiences and Global Citizens Network, Xperitas offers programs that embody true language and cultural immersion, inspire personal connections with diverse individuals and communities worldwide and provide transformational experiences for our participants.

We currently have an opening for a Program Manager, German Language Programs.  This position encompasses customer service as well as overall program management and program development.  This is a great opportunity to work with some of the most talented people in the industry. 

Program Management and Development

  • You’ll manage arrangements and logistics for all German language programs

  • Ensure accuracy of billing statements and processing of invoices

  • Serve as primary communication liaison for educators regarding program logistics

  • Identify and maintain relationships with vendors in the destination country to deliver services and evaluate their performance

  • Focusing on what works best, you’ll analyze operational processes and escalation procedures, which are used to identify opportunities to improve service delivery and value added to the customer

  • You’ll develop and execute customized programs that are tailored to a specific country’s or teacher’s requirements, ensuring educational goals are achieved

  • Collaborate with the management team to enhance existing published itineraries

  • You’ll plan and manage budgets and provide costing for published and custom programs

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Account Management

  • From an advisor perspective provide high quality customer service, including 24-hour on-call emergency support as assigned

  • Provide effective follow-up to annual program evaluations

  • Build and maintain effective long-term relationships with educators, host family coordinators abroad, land operators/travel vendors

  • Support marketing efforts for assigned programming

 

About You

  • Sie sprechen und schreiben fließend Deutsch

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

  • You’ve lived in Germany for at least one year

  • Bachelor's degree plus three years working as a Customer Service/Sales Representative in a service industry

  • Proven experience negotiating services/programs

  • Solid Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)

  • There’s not a budget out there you can’t manage and you can prove it

  • Ability to quickly analyze and problem solve complex situations

  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced challenging environment

  • Team player and self-starter – highly self-motivated

  • You love travel and would be down for the occasional domestic or international trip 

  • Experience with database management

  • Preferred classroom teaching experience/exposure

  • Preferred third language proficiency

The Xperitas Board has Board member openings and is seeking qualified applicants who reflect the organization’s values of deep respect for cultures, diversity, and learning.

Xperitas is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to promoting global citizenship through authentic immersion experiences. Board Service and Commitment

Xperitas’ Board is an engaged governing Board. Board members are expected to actively participate in the following:

  • Attend board meetings every other month;

  • Sit on at least one committee that typically meets on alternate months when the Board is notconvening;

  • Complete other work and projects, review documents, and approve measures betweenmeetings as necessary;

  • Participate in at least one Xperitas program-related event or activity per year; and

  • Serve in a board officer or committee chair position if nominated.

Service on the Xperitas Board of Directors is without remuneration, except travel and accommodation costs in relation to Board members’ duties.
The Board’s bylaws call for a three year term that maybe renewed, by mutual agreement of the Board and the Board member, one or two times up to a maximum of nine years.

Skills & Qualifications

The Board seeks the following skills and capabilities in Board candidates:

Required:

  • Enthusiastic endorsement of the Xperitas mission

  • Commitment to the mission of peace, justice and the societal value of intercultural andinternational experiences

  • Intercultural interest/competence

  • Desire to develop and contribute governance and leadership skills through service in board officer and committee chair positions

Preferred experience in one/more of these areas:

  • Travel Logistics

  • Higher education

  • K – 12 education (teaching, policy, administration), especially foreign language education

  • Health and safety in an educational setting

  • Organizational leadership and design

  • Nonprofit board leadership

  • BIPOC candidates are especially encouraged to apply.

 

Board of Directors Duties and Responsibilities

Fiduciary

  • Approval of annual budget

  • Review of financial statements at least quarterly

  • Approval of hire of audit firm

  • Meet with audit firm to review results

  • Approve internal policies and procedures

Human Resources

  • Hire, review and, if needed, remove the Executive Director

  • Set annual goals for E.D. and measure performance based on goals

  • Approve final documents of key personnel policies

  • Approve major changes in benefits for employees

Planning

  • Implement strategic planning process

  • Participate in all key aspects of strategic planning including data review

  • Semiannually review progress and make recommendations

Operations

  • Approve recommendations for key systems changes

Legal

  • In the event of legal action, develop action plan

Governance

  • Recommend and approve changes to policies

  • Recommend and approve changes to bylaws

  • Annual review of Board members’ skill, abilities, and experience

  • Evaluation of Board performance

  • Recruiting additional Board members

Promote and advocate for the organization

  • Connect Xperitas with individuals and organizations that can help advance its mission

  • Advocate for Xperitas’ interests among personal and professional networks

Fundraising

  • Xperitas Board members will consider Xperitas a philanthropic priority and are expected to give ata level that is personally meaningful on an annual basis

Volunteer Positions
