Practical Activity

It’s hard to be an expert on all museums/monuments/historical sites your group will visit on your program. However, if the trip participants share the work of learning about the sites in advance then present what they’ve learned to fellow participants during the program, everyone can benefit from having an expert guide while abroad!

The objectives of this activity are for trip participants:

  • To learn in advance about the sites they will see in a deeper, more thorough way
  • To share the work of researching the numerous sites they will see on the program
  • To learn and use new vocabulary while researching and presenting to the group about their site
  • To remain engaged and curious while visiting numerous sites in the destination

Step 1: Assign one museum/monument/historical site that you are planning to visit during your program to a participant or a group of participants.

Step 2: This participant or group should use internet or printed sources (such as guidebooks) to research the site and prepare interesting facts, historical background and artistic and/or cultural highlights that they will share when the group visits the site during the program.

Step 3: Have the students answer the following questions and be prepared to share their responses during the presentation:
 

How will we get to this site from our hotel?
